PROMPT: Create a promotional website and a set of flash based browser games for audiences to interact with. With the subject material being not only based on games, but family oriented, I wanted to make the website very fun, yet simple.
Simply put, this project was a blast. I am a huge fan of the Mario property and am personally inspired by the Nintendo team and the creativity behind them. It's one of my biggest inspirations in the art world, honestly. Enough gushing though. From the start I had a very clear vision on how I wanted this to look in my head; chaotic, but clean. This is a cartoon world with little detail everywhere, so I wanted to make the home page an adventure. Navigation is through the famous blocks, so it provides a clear understanding on what you are clicking on, while still relating to the theme.
"Pipe Peril", one of the accompanying games, is a simple finish the maze type game that takes place in the sewers underground. The goal is to quickly use the provided inventory to essentially connect the dots, before Toad falls through. The fastest times get recorded and get put up on the online rankings board.
"Shell Shocked" is a very simplified version of the Mario Kart game we all know and love. Move left and right with the arrow keys to avoid banana peels, and take aim at enemies with your arsenal of shells. To restock on ammo, drive into the mystery boxes! This is an arcade style high score based game that includes an online rankings board.
